The rugby games have been cancelled, the barrels of shotguns cleaned, the scrub is all around the mai mai and the decoys are out floating on the pond.

Tens of thousands of eager duck shooters departed out to their mai mais early this morning to see how many ducks they could shoot.

No doubt by lunchtime the guns will be placed down, the beers will be flowing, maybe even a little whiskey and the day will turn from duck hunting to a bit of banter with the boys.

The wives will pop down with yummy lunch and to check on what the men have caught.

Duck shooting season is one of the most sought after weekends of the year for hunters.
